EMT Frequently Asked Questions
|
Q:
What does an EMT-I do?
A:
An Emergency Medical Technician Intermediate
(EMT-I) is the entry-level certification for an
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) provider. EMTs
typically work on an ambulance responding to
medical / trauma emergencies. EMTs can also
work in other areas including private
transportation, hospital emergency departments
and fire / rescue agencies. There are no
pre-requisite courses needed for the EMT
program, but the student must be 18 years of
age, have a high school diploma or GED prior to
taking the Certification Exam and have up to
date immunizations.
Q:
What do you learn in class?
A:
ERTSS training programs teach above and beyond
the basic requirements for EMT. Our students
learn not only how to treat patients
experiencing medical and traumatic emergencies,
but also why. Our additional Assessment and
Hands-On Skill Lab sessions produce EMTs
capable of acting with confidence in all manner
of emergencies!
Q:
What employment opportunities will I have as a
new EMT?
A:
A new EMT can apply for work in a variety of
fields. Private ambulance companies and
municipal EMS services employee entry level
EMTs. Emergency Departments hire EMTs to act as
Patient Care Technicians (PCTs). Many Fire
Departments across the United States now make
EMT certification a prerequisite for
employment. New EMT Intermediates will
typically earn from $10-$15 / hr. While ERTSS
does not offer job placement per se, we can
assist you in contacting local employers of EMS
personnel. Professional emergency training is
an attractive item to have on a resume for a
job or school application in any
field.
Q:
How long is the course?
A:
The next EMT program will be on Monday and
Wednesday evenings from 6 pm to approximately
10:00 pm. Our programs also include some
additional evening lab classes on Tuesday or
Thursday. These classes start approximately 6
weeks into the program. You are required to
attend one of these classes per week. The
courses run approximately 10 months. Upon
completion of the EMT-I class, students become
eligible to take the National Registry EMT-I
certification exam. All course registrations must be submitted to the ERTSS Office. Available seats will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. To contact us: ERTSS 1040 Hwy 54 East, Suite D Fayetteville, Ga 30214 770-716-1404 Cancellations will only be permitted up to the course start date. A full refund, if applicable, will be issued for permitted cancellations. No refunds or credits will be issued for cancellation requests received after the course start date. ERTSS reserves the right to cancel or reschedule any course due to lack of pre-registered student enrollment. Should it be necessary to cancel or reschedule a class, notification will be done ten business days prior to the course start date at which time a full refund, if applicable, will be issued |
