FAQ’s – Student

Below are some Frequently Asked Questions ( FAQ’s) that we receive here at ERTSS.

CPR For Family & Friends is a non credential community awareness course that teaches the basics of CPR / Choking / AED. Non credential means No Certification. This course does not require a written exam or a skills test. Students receive a "Participation" card that is included in the back of the student manual.

Heartsaver is a community level course.  It is geared towards anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for their job, i.e. daycare workers, church staff, gym staff or instructor) Anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting.  The Heartsaver course options include CPR/AED and First Aid training for both adult and pediatric patients.  This course has a required Skills Test and an optional Written exam. Successful students receive a 2 year Certification eCard for the course they completed.

BLS is the medical level of CPR for healthcare professionals.  It is geared towards pre-hospital providers, like EMT's, paramedics, fire fighters and if you work in a hospital/clinical environment.
The BLS Course has a required Written exam and Skills test that must be completed to receive the 2 year Certification eCard.

Check with your employer or school to ensure you are selecting the correct course.

At the home page Top Menu, click on  "AHA Course Schedule".  The Course panel will appear. Click on the desired course discipline and select the date that works best for you. Complete the Booking Section to register.

If you are taking a Heartsaver course at ERTSS, the student manual is included in the paid course tuition. You will receive your manual when you arrive for the course. If you choose, you may pickup your student manual before the class during regular office hours.

If you are taking a BLS, ACLS, PALS course, these textbooks are available for purchase during your registration process, or available at ERTSS for purchase separately. You may also choose to purchase your student manual from www.shopcpr.heart.org or other vendors.

For instructor candidates taking an Instructor Essentials Course, information will be provided of purchase options during registration.

At the home page Top Menu, hover over AHA eLearning Courses. Scroll down to the course you need and click on it. It will pull up the AHA eLearning page. Select, purchase and complete the Online Course.  Complete the survey and print out the Certificate of Completion. You will then to schedule a skills practice/check off with an AHA Instructor and pass the skills portion to receive an American Heart Association Certification eCard. There is a separate fee for the Skills Check off at ERTSS.  The certification eCard is included in this fee.

Once you have completed the Online eLearning Course through the American Heart Association, you can schedule a Skills Check Off. Go to our website At the home page Top Menu, select Schedule Skills Check off and click on it.  Scroll down to Skills Check off Appointments and click inside the box and it will pull up a drop down menu.  Select they type skills check off, the date and time. Time options will appear once you have selected the type of Skills Check Off. Complete the registration form and submit. Bring the American Heart Association Certificate of Completion for the Online portion of your program to ERTSS. All Skills Check Offs are conducted at the ERTSS Office in Fayetteville, GA. There is a fee for the Skills Check Off at ERTSS. The Certification eCard is included in this fee.

Successful students will receive their 2 year certification eCard the same day of the course completion.

Login to your laptop or computer using Google Chrome as your search engine.  You will receive an email from eCards@heart.org with a link inviting you to claim your eCard.  If you do not see the email, check your junk or spam folder. The link within the email will direct you to the student profile with your first name, last name and email address, eCard Code, AHA Instructor name and Training Center information.  Check that the information is correct. Once you have confirmed that your information is accurate, you will set up a security question and answer to access your eCard in the future.

After setting up your security question and answer, accept the terms and conditions of the site and click submit. You will be directed to fill out a brief survey about the AHA course you just completed.  Your answers to these questions will help improve the quality of future AHA trainings. After you complete the survey, your eCard will be displayed. You will have 3 options to view or print it.

If you don’t see the link in your email, you can claim your eCard online at www.heart.org/cpr/mycards  You will enter your first and last name and your email address.  You can also claim your eCard by text (Text “eCards” to 51736) you must have provided your mobile number when you signed in on the course roster at the class.
