2025 Course Ratios/Time Frames

The 2025 Guidelines Educational design incorporate changes in the “Student to Instructor” ratios as well as the “Student to Manikin” ratios and Course time frames. These changes can be found in the 2025 Instructor manual for each discipline.
Below are the Course ratio requirements and Time frame estimates for the 2025 guidelines courses.

The 2025 Guidelines Educational design identifies two Heartsaver Instructor to Student ratio.
New Instructor:  Monitor No more than 2 manikin stations at a time during student practice up to a 3/1 Student to Manikin ratio. This equals a max Instructor to Student ratio of 1/6. Additional Instructor(s) are required for classes of 7 or more students.

Experienced Instructor: Monitor no more than 3 manikin stations at a time during student practice up to a 3/1 Student to Manikin ratio. This equals a max Instructor to Student ratio of 1/9. Additional Instructor(s) are required for classes of 10 or more students.

Class Length for Instructor Lead Course :
HS CPR AED - 1.5 Hours without optional topics (child & or infant ). Additional time required per option taught.
HS First Aid -  2.25 Hours without optional topics. Additional time required per option taught.
HS First Aid/CPR/ AED Basic - 2.25 Hours without optional topics. Additional time required per option taught.
HS First Aid/CPR/AED TOTAL - 3.5 Hours without optional topics. Additional time required per option taught.
HS Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED - 4 Hours without optional topics. Additional time required per option taught.

Blended Learning: Class Time for Skills Practice and Testing.
Heartsaver   -  2 Hours without optional topics. Additional time required per option taught.
Heartsaver Pediatric - 2.25 Hours without optional topics. Additional time required per option taught

The 2025 Guidelines Educational design identifies two, Basic Life Support  Instructor to Student ratios.
New Instructor:  Monitor No more than 2 manikin stations at a time during student practice up to a 3/1 Student to Manikin ratio. This equals a max Instructor to Student ratio of 1/6.  Additional Instructor(s) are required for classes of 7 or more students.

Experienced Instructor: Monitor no more than 3 manikin stations at a time during student practice up to a 3/1 Student to Manikin ratio. This equals a max Instructor to Student ratio of 1/9. Additional Instructor(s) are required for classes of 10 or more students.

Class Time for Instructor Lead Courses:
BLS Course - Approximately 4.5 Hours.
BLS Renewal - Approximately 4.0 Hours.

Blended Learning HeartCode BLS - Approximately 2.75 Hours

The 2025 ACLS Guidelines Educational design uses a  Instructor to Student ratio should be up to 1/6, but a maximum of 1/8 is allowed with additional class time added. Additional Instructor(s) and equipment are required for classes of 9 or more students.

Class Time - Instructor Lead Courses
ACLS Provider Full Course - 15.5 to 16.5 Hours
ACLS Provider with Video Prework - 13.25 to 14.25 Hours
ACLS Update - 8.5 to 9.5 hours
ACLS Update with Video Prework - 8.25 to 9.25 Hours

Blended Classroom time for Skills Practice and Testing
ACLS HeartCode - 6.75 to 7.75 Hours

The 2025 PALS Guidelines Educational design uses a  Instructor to Student ratio should be up to 1/6, but a maximum of 1/8 is allowed with additional class time added. Additional Instructor(s) and equipment are required for classes of 9 or more students.

Class Time for Instructor Lead Courses:
PALS Provider Course - Approximately 17 Hours
PALS Provider Course with Video Prework - Approximately 12.5 Hours
PALS Update Course - Approximately 9 Hours

PALS HeartCode - 5.5 Hours

 

2025 Guideline Heartsaver, BLS, ACLS and PALS Instructor Courses have a maximum Instructor to Student ratio of 1/7.
The ACLS EP Instructor Course has a maximum Instructor to Student ratio of 1/10

All Instructor Courses are designed for an Instructor to Student ratio of  1/3.
