AHA Certification Renewal Guidelines

As a reminder to all Instructors, The American Heart Association general policy on provider renewal course prerequisites is as follows:

A Prerequisite to attend any American Heart Association Renewal or Update Certification Course, the student must have a Current Provider Certification eCard for the Course they are updating. The Current Provider Certification must be valid on the day that the Update Course is taught.

If the Provider Certification ecard has expired, the student does not meet the AHA Renewal or Update prerequisite and must then complete an Initial Provider Course to achieve certification again.

*As stated in the current Instructor Manual(s), the AHA does allow Training Centers some flexibility regarding the above general policy, if they choose, but the decision to “Allow / Not Allow” this flexibility rest solely with the Training Center Coordinator.

The ERTSS Training Center has and continues to use the General Policy rule. A current provider card is required to take a renewal / update course. Please contact the Training Center if you have questions regarding renewal / update course prerequisites.

As referenced in the PAM, this information is provided in each BLS, ACLS, PALS, PEARS Instructor Manuals
